Elisapie

Elisapie’s unwavering connection to her homeland and to Inuktitut, her mother tongue, lies at the heart of her artistic journey. Born in Salluit, a village in Nunavik accessible only by air, the Inuk singer-songwriter and activist has become one of Canada’s most celebrated cultural voices. She won her first JUNO Award in 2005 with her band Taima and has since received widespread recognition for her diverse artistic work.

On September 15, 2023, Elisapie released Inuktitut, her fourth solo album. The project reimagines ten rock and pop classics from the 1960s through the 1990s, translating and performing them in Inuktitut. The result is a deeply personal and emotional soundtrack, with each song dedicated to a loved one or inspired by an intimate story. Acclaimed by both audiences and critics, Inuktitut became the second album of her career to be shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize.

The album also earned Elisapie a JUNO Award for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the Year and led to more than 70 performances across Canada, the United States, and Europe. In 2025, Inuktitut brought her a second JUNO Award, this time in the Best Adult Alternative Album category.

Surrounded by some of Montréal’s finest indie and folk musicians, Elisapie continues to celebrate Inuit culture with grace, bringing together tradition and modernity through her music.
